Café Assistant
Brief Description
The position of volunteer café assistant at Wickerbys C.I.C. includes a variety of tasks such as delivering excellent customer service and creating a memorable experience, taking orders, and the serving of food and beverages. As a café assistant, your role will involve maintaining the overall satisfaction of customers and contributing to the smooth operation of the café. Qualifications and/or experience for this position are desirable but not essential as full training will be given. Wickerbys C.I.C. does not discriminate against any protected characteristic and welcomes all applications. Your Tasks will include but are not limited to

Greeting our guests warmly and presenting them with menus.

Taking orders for food and drink accurately, whilst considering any dietary requirements or restrictions and preferences that customers may have.

Recommend items on the menu and answer customer questions about menu options, following Wickerbys C.I.C. quality standards.

Relaying of orders to kitchen staff and ensuring the timely delivery of beverages and food to tables.

Check on guests to ensure satisfaction, address any concerns, and fulfil additional requests.

Processing payments accurately and using the till/cash register, handling cash transactions.

Setting up and resetting tables efficiently, ensuring each table has the correct tableware and condiments.

Collaborating with the kitchen staff, as well as other café assistants to ensure smooth operations and service.

Maintaining an organised and clean dining area, including the clearing of tables and bussing of dishes.

Following all health and safety guidelines, including safe and proper food handling and hygiene practices.
Qualifications and Requirements

GCSE in Cooking and or formal training in hospitality or café/restaurant service is a bonus but not essential.

Experience as a café assistant or previous employment in a similar role, which demonstrates exceptional customer service.

Knowledge of food and beverage menus, including recognising and understanding ingredients and required preparation methods.

A strong set of communication skills to enable interaction with guests, take orders, also to suggest and provide recommendations.

Can handle and manage cash transactions and process payments quickly and accurately.

Have a positive attitude, in addition to a strong work ethic, as well as the ability to work within a fast-paced environment.

Adaptability to customer demands changing and busy periods which may have several orders needing to be taken consecutively.

Have physical stamina as well as the ability to stand for an extended amount of time, and the ability to carry heavy trays.

Basic math skills for cash handling and order accuracy.

Lines of Communication

The café assistant reports to the Manager/CEO or Shift Supervisor and Collaborates closely with other café assistants, kitchen staff, and customers.
Working Conditions

This volunteer position can be full-time or part-time with flexible working hours. The café assistant works in a café setting, interacting with customers and handling hot and cold beverages and food. The role involves standing for extended periods, carrying heavy trays, and adhering to health and safety guidelines.
