Personal Belongings and Unattended Items Policy

1. Purpose

This policy has been developed to ensure the health, safety and security of all customers, volunteers, staff and visitors using Wickerbys Community Café. Unattended belongings can create safety hazards, obstruct emergency exits, increase the risk of theft, and prevent the café from maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all customers, volunteers, staff, visitors, contractors and anyone entering Wickerbys Community Café.

3. Policy Statement

Wickerbys Community Café does not permit personal belongings or other items to be left unattended anywhere on the premises.

Items include, but are not limited to:

  • Bags

  • Handbags

  • Backpacks

  • Boxes

  • Shopping bags

  • Parcels and packages

  • Suitcases

  • Clothing

  • Personal possessions

  • Any other unattended items

Customers and visitors are responsible for their belongings at all times.

4. Leaving the Premises

If a customer or visitor leaves the café for any reason, they must take all of their belongings with them.

No personal belongings or other items may be left inside or outside the café for collection at a later time.

5. Health and Safety

This policy helps Wickerbys Community Café to:

  • Maintain clear walkways and fire exits.

  • Reduce trip hazards.

  • Protect customers, volunteers and visitors.

  • Minimise security risks.

  • Maintain compliance with health and safety legislation.

6. Unattended Items

Any item left unattended will be considered abandoned.

Wickerbys Community Café reserves the right to remove and dispose of any unattended items without notice.

Where an unattended item is considered suspicious or presents a security risk, the appropriate emergency services may be contacted immediately.

7. Liability

Wickerbys Community Café accepts no responsibility or liability for any personal belongings left on the premises.

Any items left unattended are entirely at the owner's risk.

8. Refusal to Comply

Anyone refusing to comply with this policy may be asked to remove their belongings immediately.

Where necessary, individuals may be asked to leave the premises. Persistent refusal to comply may result in access to the café being refused.

9. Equality and Reasonable Adjustments

Wickerbys Community Café is committed to meeting its obligations under the Equality Act 2010. This policy will be applied fairly, consistently and without discrimination.

10. Review

This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if legislation, health and safety guidance, or operational requirements change.
